Redlands Hires New Men’s Basketball Coach

Calumet graduate, Tyler Brown, has been hired to lead the men’s basketball team at Redlands Community College in El Reno. Brown took over as the interim head coach on May 4, before officially taking the reins of the Cougars’ basketball program on June 1. “This is my Yankees job and is something I’ve dreamt of since I was a student here,” Brown said. “There is nothing above Redlands to me. It’s just a dream come true, and I’m honored and blessed to be in this position.” Brown played at Calumet, the Oklahoma small-school basketball powerhouse, for one year, where he was the starting point guard and team captain his senior year in 2002. “It was a really good year and a great school,” Brown said. “The community is pretty much based around the high school, especially the basketball team, which was nice.”

Brown and Shawnee Commit to Play at Northeastern A&M for Separate Sports

Two more Geary Bison graduates have committed to further their athletic careers at the next level.

Dion Brown and Ross Shawnee will be attending Northeastern A&M in Miami, Oklahoma, this Fall. Brown for wrestling and Shawnee for football.

Shawnee made the decision back in March after visiting multiple campuses with his family, but first, he had to choose between playing football or wrestling.

“It was a big decision he had to make whether he wanted to play football or wrestle,” coach Steven Wilson said. “He decided he wanted to play [football] at NEO, so he drove up there to work on some stuff with their coaches who thought Ross would be a good part of their team. So, they made him a preferred walk on.”
