Lady Bison End Successful Fast-Pitch Season

The Lady Bison’s regular season and postseason came to an end this week, finishing with a winning record (9-8) for the first time in three years.

“This was the best year I’ve had here,” coach Amie Shackleford said. “I feel like my girls finally settled in and did the things that I asked them to do. They bought in and worked hard, which at the end of the day working hard can take care of a lot of things.”

Waynoka Gives Bison First Loss on Season

Missed tackles and penalties caught up with the Bison, who took their first loss of the season in their home opener against the Waynoka Railroaders, 46-28, on Friday, September 15.

On the first drive, sophomore quarterback Landon Holt connected with junior Kendell Johnson on a 20-yard pass as the Bison started to move the ball down the field. On a 4th-and-four at the Waynoka 40-yard line, Holt looked to Johnson again, this time connecting on a 25-yard strike. However, a holding penalty was called against the Bison offensive line, inevitably forcing Geary to punt.

Lady Bison Ride a Seven-Game Winning Streak into Hinton Tournament this Weekend

The Lady Bison made it seven-straight wins earlier this week, winning each game throughout the streak by an average of five runs and extending their record to 9-3.

“I think it’s been our focus at the plate,” coach Amie Shackleford said. “It doesn’t matter what count we’re in. We know we’re never really out of it.”

Bison Defeat Canton for Third- Straight Year

It wasn’t the prettiest game, but the Bison made the plays to make it three-straight seasonopening wins against the Canton Tigers, 38-20.

In a game that saw each team tied once early in the first quarter, Geary held a comfortable one to two score lead throughout the game.

Lady Bison off to a Good Start After Winning Geary Festival

This year’s Lady Bison fast-pitch team is off to one of their best starts in school history, with a new mentality and work ethic that’s promising of a brighter future.

“We’re going to do whatever it takes to win,” coach Amie Shackleford said. “We weren’t there two years ago or even last year. I feel like we’re doing a better job in every aspect of the game.”

Bison Football Returns After Historic 2016 Season

Before three years ago, the Geary Bison hadn’t made the postseason since 1991. Until last season, Geary football hadn’t seen the likes of the quarterfinals in the schools history.

Now, after the Bison’s most successful season and with 13 seniors graduated from last year’s team, coach Steven Wilson & Co. have no choice but to move forward, looking to build back the legacy the 2016 team has left behind.There will be a few familiar faces on the field this season, but with two returning starters on both sides of the ball, majority will be new faces.

Geary Star Looking for Sports Sponsors to Provide Scholarships

The Geary Star is pleased to announce the first-annual Geary Star Sports Scholarships, which will be dedicated to helping to young Geary Bison seniors to achieve a stronger foundation for future learning and career selection.

With the help of our sports sponsors at the Geary Star, we will provide a scholarship to a male and female student athlete who plan to continue his or her education onto the next level.

The application period for this year’s scholarships will be announced in June of 2018. Each applicant must be a senior and play at least one sport for Geary High School.
