Geary Schools Announce District Teacher of the Year

By Chad Waters Editor

Geary Public Schools announced their 2017-18 District Teacher of the Year at their monthly school board meeting on April 3. The finalists are nominated by their peers at the elementary school and middle school/high school levels, with two finalists then voted on by a secret party outside the school.

Geary Kindergarten teacher Barbara Maib received the top honor this year. “I appreciate everyone that I work with and it means a lot to be recognized,” Maid said. “We work hard, and it means a lot to know that your peers recognize your efforts toward your students.” Maib’s been in education for 13 years with all 13 coming in Geary. Before teaching Kindergarten the past six years, Maib taught 5th grade and pre-k as well.
